Themed around Art and Loss, the 2015 festival will feature a total of 18 events from 8 countries. And for the first time in its history, the Festival will see a fresh direction as a new Artistic director — theatre-maker and educator Sean Tobin — takes over the reins.

In line with its twin purpose of innovation and discussion, 2015’s Festival also seeks to forge new relationships with emerging and established artists, so as to encourage the ongoing developments and refining of art-making practices of independent artists on the fringe.

Loss is an intimately familiar concept that is an inevitable part of our human experience, and art is a medium that can be used as a form of remembrance, and also a catharsis in creation. As Tobin expresses, “We have all lost stuff. So let’s come together to laugh, blush, cry and cringe about it. Let’s retrace, regret and recreate.”

Tickets are on sale from SISTIC, and are priced at $19 and $22 excluding ticketing charges. M1 staff and customers will also enjoy an exclusive 20% discount off all tickets until the end of the festival!

If you want to get a glimpse into what’s in store at the Fringe 2015, or are keen in learning more about the process of art-making, come along for Reimagining Singapore Theatre on 22nd November 2014 from 3 to 4.30pm. Join in on this lively discussion about the artists’ inspirations, challenges and strategies, which will be moderated by Tobin.

Also, if you’re an aspiring theatre practitioner or student, here’s your chance to get a first-hand experience of the unique devising methodology developed by Alvin Tan and Haresh Sharma! The Devising Masterclass with both artists is to be held from 17th to 18th January 2015 at Esplanade Rehearsal Studio, and the deadline for registration is on 2nd December 2014. Don’t wait to sign up for this opportunity!

Get involved and join M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, as it examines and excavates different interpretations of the relationship between Art and Loss. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for more information and updates!
